The Role of Nonclassroom Spaces in Living-Learning Communities
Global education and global competence prepare students for the 21st century. Nearly every major issue facing people has a global dimension, from climate change to economics. Schools must prepare students to be globally competent by being able to both understand and act upon issues of global significance. Global education is built upon a foundation of knowledge and understanding but frames learning within the lens of rigorous study. This incorporates investigations, recognizing perspectives, communicating ideas, and taking action. The impact on student learning is great. Research has demonstrated that students who learn content through authentic tasks and real-world experiences are more likely to engage in learning, attend school, and achieve more. Ultimately, students who experience global education are more likely to have a competitive edge when entering the university system or labor force.

Transition Buddies
Transition buddies are helpful for students with ADHD whohave trouble refocusing their attention as they transition from one academic lesson tothe next. Further, verbal or nonverbal teacher cues signaling upcoming transitionshelp prepare students for changes in activities or lessons.
Seating Arrangements: Seat the student with ADHD away from distractions and close tothe teaching action.o Place the student in close proximity to instruction so the teacher can monitor thestudent’s work.o Place the student by peers who are attentive workers.o Place the student away from distractions such as windows, the pencil sharpener, the door, and other high-traffic areas.o Add distance between student desks.o For independent work, use desks with attached chairs rather than tables whereseveral students are seated.o If the student has a high need for movement, seating her near the back of the roommay provide opportunities to move without distracting peers.

Self-Correction Opportunities
Students use calculators or a key provided by the teacher to check their answers.Learning Games Students play board games that reinforce skills such as sight vocabulary, phonics, grammar rules, and basic math facts.
For example, Bingo can be used to review basic facts and concepts. Students who require more immediate feedback and recognition of their efforts might begin with a Bingo board that has onlythree cells across and three cells down. The number of cells can be gradually increased to four across, four down, then five, and so forth.
Computer Games: Computer games increase opportunities for responding and activeengagement and provide immediate feedback about accuracy. In addition, manystudents with ADHD find computer learning games highly reinforcing.

Organizational Supports
Organizational Supports
Many students with ADHD have significant difficulties with organization.
They are more likely to respond positively when teachers establish class routines and set procedures and maintain a well-organized learning environment.
Clear rules and advanced planning are keys to success for teachers of students with ADHD.
The following organizational supports are particularly useful. Students should be taught to use these tools through teacher modeling and guided practice with feedback before being expected to use them more independently.
Assignment Notebook: Provide the student with an assignment notebook to helporganize homework and seatwork.Color-Coded Folders: Provide the student with color-coded folders to helporganize assignments for different academic subjects.Homework Partners: Assign the student a partner who can help record

Eco Friendly
Eco-friendly literally means earth-friendly or not harmful to the environment (see References 1). This term most commonly refers to products that contribute to green living or practices that help conserve resources like water and energy. Eco-friendly products also prevent contributions to air, water and land pollution. You can engage in eco-friendly habits or practices by being more conscious of how you use resources.
Making a truly eco-friendly product keeps both environmental and human safety in mind. At a minimum, the product is non-toxic. Other eco-friendly attributes include the use of sustainably grown or raised ingredients, produced in ways that do not deplete the ecosystem. Organic ingredients or materials are grown without toxic pesticides or herbicides. Products with "made from recycled materials" contain glass, wood, metal or plastic reclaimed from waste products and made into something new. Biodegradable products break down through natural decomposition, which is less taxing on landfills and the ecosystem as a whole. (See References 3)

ADHD and School interventions
School interventions should include a team approach across multiple settings, consisting of bothpreventive and intervention strategies.
Interventions must be based upon assessment data that includes information about the student’s strengths and needs as well as the environmental conditions in which her characteristics of ADHD occur.
Progress monitoring and strategy adjustments are critical to the success of any intervention plan (Wolraich & DuPaul, 2010).
The first step in creating classroom supports for students with ADHD is understanding thestudents’ strengths and needs. This involves formal and informal assessment, as well ascollaboration among educational professionals and the students’ families.

Poor Listening Skills
Do you zone out during long business meetings? Did your husband forget to pick up your child at baseball practice, even though you called to remind him on his way home? Problems with attention result in poor listening skills in many adults with ADHD, leading to a lot of missed appointments and misunderstandings.
